on great industrial design

I find myself vacuuming a lot lately, and I'm not an inherent clean freak. A few months ago a friend told me about a vacuum cleaner she'd bought that was just amazing. She offered to let me try it, and I was instantly sold. Went out and bought a $450+ vacuum cleaner (well, I shopped the best deal, and actually paid a lot less) the next day.

Why? This vacuum cleaner was so elegantly and simply designed, and so good at cleaning, that I actually find myself wanting to vacuum. I've been a pretty poor housekeeper for years, thanks to working full time, raising 3 kids, and being a perennial student. But the reward of actually seeing what you've cleaned (it has a see-through bagless system) and the intuitive design lead me to get the thing out at least once a week. My husband actually asked if something was wrong with me when he saw me vacuuming weekend after weekend. He thought I'd suddenly developed a case of germophobia.

Regarding Vaun's blog post about the pitfalls of design by committee, this brand was created by a lone inventor who spent years perfecting his design, and the result is a product I truly love to use.

Thanks for writing about your vacuum cleaner and referrring to my comments on design by committee. Sometimes I feel like a raving lunatic as I write, so it's nice to learn about something that backs up one of my comments. It is also inspiring to learn about an inventor who seems to have found success, rather than having his idea gobbled up or diluted by big business.

I want to learn more about your vacuum cleaner. As an apartment building manager who has gone through dozens of lousy old vacuumm supplied to me by the building owner, I am a person who, like you, takes pleasure in a good vacuum cleaner when I find one.

I'm also increasingly impressed with your teaching activities as described in your blog posts. I'd love to get your advice, some time, on how I might best structure my projects in this program toward my goal of teaching video production in a school like yours.

I agree and also am willing to delay gratification for the elegant design. I have taken 8 months to evaluate murphy bed designs for our studio bedroom, much to my husbands chagrin. Given the first type that comes to most peoples mind at the word murphy, you can imagine how far I had to range to find basically, a flip up platform bed. Nova Scotia, to be exact.

Not to interject sheer pragmatism or anything, but aren't you going to tell us what kind of vacuum cleaner this is?
